Europe Day 5 - March 22

So the morning of the 22 we got up and had breakfast at the hotel. It was a little different they did not have much and they had mainly like cold cuts and croissants. So after eating we loaded the bus and headed to the D-Day beaches. This was one of the things that Richard had not seen last time so he was very excited. It was very cool to see all this and at the same time sad. It makes you appreciate what those men did. The first place we went was the Normandy American memorial and cemetery. The interesting thing about this is that it is American soil. France gave the land to American after the war. The we first started by going through the memorial part inside.

This was a saying on the wall to the entrance.

This was the sight we first saw after walking into the cemetery.

These pictures are some of the many things that were in the memorial. This is all stuff from the war. They also had movies playing that you could watch.

Soldiers were expected to carry several days worth of rations with them. This is an example of what they might have had.

Phrase book issued to allied troops to help them communicate with French civilians.

This was a memorial that was on the way outside to the cemetery. The other picture is one of the walls leading to the cemetery.

Up next, the Cemetery.
